Mentors play a positve role in students’ successes in school and in the community. They help students with homework and to improve their academic skills. Students who regularly meet with mentors are less likely to skip school and more likely to graduate from high school. For these and many other reasons, Florida’s Take Stock In Children (TSIC) program is changing the lives of students. Founded by Don Pemberton in 1995 in St. Petersburg, Florida, TSIC has provided students from low-income families in grades 6 through 12 with mentors, tutoring, scholarships, early intervention and long-term support services to help ensure their success in school and the community. The program is offered in every county and school district in the State of Florida.
